Mordheim Board - Docks Pt VII

How the time flies - I can't believe 7 months has passed since my last update!!

I've finally been able to take some time off work to really dedicate to getting this table 100% complete.

The paint and Mod Podge are still drying, but I'm calling this finished!

Since my last post, I've given the board a liberal treatment with Dirty Down Moss effect, with a focus on the area immediately around the docks.  I've also added a few autumn leaves here and there for a little pop of contrasting colour.  I then gave everything a quick spray of matt varnish, before moving on to the resin pour.

I don't have a lot of experience with resin, and the thought of ruining all my work definitely played on my mind in the lead up to the pour.  I sourced a cheap poster frame with a sheet of clear perspex I could use for my damn walls.  Using silicone and masking tape I tried to ensure this was as 'leak proof' as possible.  I sourced some two-part epoxy resin from the craft store along with some compatible green and grey tints. Everything looked great initially, however as the cure progressed some large cracks started appearing in the resin.  Fortunately, I'd reserved some resin so was able to go in and do a second pour to largely hide this.  I have no idea exactly what caused the cracking, but I suspect it was either that the ambient temperature was too hot, or that doing a resin pour on an artists' canvas didn't provide sufficient structural support to handle the heat.  The good news was that the dam worked perfectly with no leaks, and was cleanly removed at the end.

To achieve a slightly rippled effect on the surface, I applied dabs of gloss Mod Podge with a brush and then pushed it around with the airbrush.

With that I'm calling the board itself finished.  Although the large ship is fixed in place, I plan to use the smaller boats like scatter terrain to change the layout on the water as required, or remove completely to introduce some tentacles or monster!!

Here are the final progress pictures.

I've used up an entire a bottle of Dirty Down on this table and its buildings.

Resin dam complete - silicon and perspex, and then plenty of masking tape for safety.

I sat the entire board on a plastic painters drop sheet just in case.

Gearing up for the first pour.  Resin + smoky grey pigment + avocado green pigment.

Looking good initially...

... but then the cracking started.  Originating under the jetties, it spread out to the end of the board.

Another view under the jetties. Luckily, I could do a second pour and fix it.

To get the water effect, I dabbed on gloss Mod Podge with a brush...

... then came in with an airbrush to push it around.

It goes on white, but then dries very clear.  My only concern is that the waves are a little too large, but figure I can always come back in with a smaller pattern.

I've got some upcoming games planned, so I am in the process of adding final touches to some buildings and scatter - will post in due course.  I've also handed off my Cult of the Deep for painting by my brother, so will hopefully have them finished soon too.
